The Minuteman Project and the Politics of Territory
by MG William A. Flatt
April was a very busy month for patriots who had the time to travel to our nation's beautiful Southwest. The MinuteMan Project [MMP], supported by thousands, had very nearly 1,000 active participants from April 1 to April 30, 2005. The project succeeded brilliantly in its two objectives; 1) to focus public attention on the problems faced by citizens living near our border, and 2) demonstrate that the border can be successfully patrolled and result in a decrease of illegal crossings.
In fact, the success of the Minuteman Project was almost absolute. For the 30 day period, illegal crossings in the area of operations dropped by approximately 98%, with the remainder of illegal immigrants being interdicted by the Border Patrol with the assistance of MMP volunteers.
Now in the middle of the month of May, people are talking about how the Dept. of Homeland 'Insecurity' and top Border Patrol bureaucrats have suspended border enforcement in order to neutralize the statistical effect that the MMP has had on border enforcement. For more on this, see the IMC news page.
Think about that for a minute - in order to pursue a political agenda, federal pencil-pushers have deliberately undermined the US Border Patrol's primary mission: to protect American citizens from criminal border crossers. Criminal is not harsh language either... A disproportionate number of inmates in the US criminal justice system, California in particular, are illegal aliens. Official but unpublicized estimates indicate that the trend for our prison systems is toward the increase of the numbers of illegal aliens prosecuted for crimes in the US since their illegal entry.
What is not being discussed at all is the fact that law enforcement managers and prosecutors are deliberately letting the majority of illegal aliens who commit crimes go free, on the grounds that detention of illegal aliens is the responsibility of the INS; the INS in turn has asked police and other agencies not to 'volunteer' to assist in detecting and detaining ANY illegal immigrants!!!!
"GOOD FENCES MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS"
In the Eighties, Ronald Reagan challenged MIkhail Gorbachev to "...tear down this wall" - referring to the Berlin Wall. Those of us who remember the Berlin Wall know why it was built, even if the intention was malignant. It was built to keep the people of East Germany from fleeing tyranny to the relative freedom of West Germany.
Generally speaking, walls, fences and borders are built for the purpose of keeping intruders out or for the purpose of marking sovereign territory. For legitimate purposes such as these, such barriers are indispensable. Every nation that intends to endure must protect and defend its physical jurisdiction.
Every nation has a Right to protect itself. Every nation is entitled to its own sovereign destiny. These rights belong to a nation because they are an extension of the natural Right of that nation's citizens to hold Property; that right is embodied in the sovereignty of national territory.
When our government abandons its mandate to provide for a common defense, and attempts to surrender the sovereignty of our people, it loses its legitimacy. The deliberate policy of not closing our borders beg some pointed questions: why were our borders allowed to be penetrated in the first place? Was it to allow drugs to be smuggled into the USA? (Think of Mena, Ark.) Knowing that "...Nothing in politics happens by accident" (Franklin D. Roosevelt), perhaps it was to instigate a 'war on drugs'.
Since the Soviets had concluded several decades ago that smuggling routes could also be used as conduits for inserting military personnel and hardware, communist insurgencies have successfully penetrated and toppled many third-world governments. The USSR determined that using illegal immigration and drug smuggling routes into the USA would provide the best opportunity for their special operations forces to penetrate our interior in a war with the USA.
It is already a matter of record that at least a few Russian 'suitcase' portable nuclear devices have been pre-positioned in the USA during the cold war; these devices have not yet been located!
There can be no doubt that people like Osama Bin Laden have studied Soviet and other military doctrine and adapted it for their own use. In the wake of 9/11, US politicians have deliberately schemed to not merely keep our border open, but actually abolish it as part of a plan to create a free trade area of the Americas. Even now, non-Mexican illegal aliens gain entry to the US by illegally entering Mexico on their southern border! There is nothing to stop some well- organized terrorists from doing the same, if they have not already done so! What makes this so dangerous is that Bin Laden has been working for some time to obtain black market Russian suitcase nukes; if he already has one, it may only be a matter of time before several devices are planted in several major US cities.
Unfortunately, the government is far from being prepared to deal with even the aftermath of such an attack! There is little information to suggest how prepared the federal government may be able to prevent such an attack; though according to their own official statements, they successfully prevent 'potential' attacks every year. However, confidence is not hgh for as long as our borders go unprotected.
A 'WAR' ON DRUGS, WEAPONS, TERRORISTS, ET CETERA
As the USA slouches toward tyranny, we are subjected to various 'wars' against the 'enemy du jour': Drugs, crime, poverty, illiteracy, and now terrorism. Oddly, such 'wars' have had the opposite effect; rather than defeat the enemy du jour, the federal government has aggrandized the problem at the expense of more and more of our liberties.
For over 20 years, with prohibitions on the manufacture, importation, distribution, and sale of machine guns, urban street gangs and other criminals - especially in California, home of draconian gun control - all seem to maintain an uninterrupted supply of machine guns. On more than one occasion federal agents have intercepted shipments of several thousands of Chinese machine guns. While there is a strong likelihood that a majority of Chinese machine guns enter the US undetected at official ports of entry (only 1 in more than 1000 containers are checked), the remainder of these aren't coming by sea; they come from Mexico.
It is an already widely-accepted fact that the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1980's, which plagued inner-city ghettos, was caused by drugs smuggled into the USA by independent 'cut-outs' working for the CIA. This was the Bush-Clinton Connection responsible for the murders of witnesses in Mena, Arkansas. For more, read "Compromised: Clinton Bush and the CIA" by Terry Reed. [ EAEC ] [ Penmarin Books ] [ Interview with co-author John Cummings ]
Perhaps in a similar operation, the hundreds (thousands?) of communist Ak-47 machine guns in the USA today were smuggled in by certain people within our own government to create pressure for Clintonesque gun-control legislation. According to facts mentioned in Ron Cole's documentary film, "Day 51: The True Story of Waco", the proximate cause of the Branch Davidian massacre was information they were never intended to have... information concerning this possibility of weapons being smuggled into the country.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt astutely observed that absolutely nothing in politics ever happens by accident: "If it happened that way, it was planned".
We may deduce from the foregoing argument, therefore, that an open border policy may be a deliberate effort to undermine American national security and our sovereignty. I am convinced that this may be the case, but other possibilities come to mind. It may be a pretext toward the creation of an EU-style "American Union", as presaged by NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA, and the proposed 'Free Trade Area of the Americas' (FTAA). Typically, economic union precedes any political union. Open borders certainly represent a step in that direction.
In her bestselling book, the neoconservative columnist Ann Coulter documents how policy decisions over the last 60 years have undermined our security and freedom. While she neglects to mention that both parties - not just Democrats - were responsible for the changes, the historical account is otherwise accurate.
However, I must disagree in the strongest of terms with the vast, vast majority of pundits. They claim that security and Liberty are mutually exclusive, and that to increase one you must subtract from the other. This is so far from the truth, because this is not a zero-sum equation. You cannot have one without the other, and anyone claiming otherwise has likely designed to deprive you of both.
MR. BUSH, CLOSE OUR BORDERS!
Americans have been demanding border enforcement for decades now, and nothing substantive has been done about it. Where Congress appropriated real money to address illegal immigration, the funds went to fat-cat contractors that installed faulty and nonfunctional detection equipment at heavily inflated prices.
Perhaps Dubya has other plans? After all, he denounced patriotic American volunteers as "vigilantes" for helping the USBP secure a portion of the border in Arizona, and he supports the globalization of our economy and our laws.
First it was about drugs, then it was weapons, and now it's about 'terrorism'. He tells us it's only a matter of time before terrorists strike again, possibly with one or more WMDs, but still the borders remain open. The borders remain open in spite of the fact the Mexican illegal immigrants are outnumbered by non-Mexican illegal immigrants... in spite of the fact that for some time now, illegal immigrants account for over 90% of oustanding arrest warrants in Southern California... in spite of the fact that racist Chicano-supremacist hate groups are openly planning to overwhelm the native population of the US, and likely initiate a race war sometime in the next 10 to 20 years!!
But I'm sure that the borders will be kept unsecured for a while, so the quisling bureaucracy can implement other control mechanisms to steal our Liberty; the problem will be manipulated to force America into accepting "solutions" that we would otherwise never agree to such as a national ID system, facial-recognition camera networks, mass-population tracking technologies, ad nauseam...
Oh, never mind. That legislation has already been passed... last week!
Don't worry, though. These solutions aren't intended for the enemies of America, it's all for you... because Big Brother loves you and truly cares about you (ick!)! After all, "it's for the children"! Then again, perhaps we need to ask the people who work in Washington just who they think the enemy is...
SECURE BORDERS ARE POSSIBLE, NOT A PIPE DREAM
A secure, defended border would accomplish several goals. First, reduce the risk of terrorism; stop or sharply reduce the smuggling of drugs; deter illegal immigrants from endangering their lives out in the remotest parts of the desert; and other contraband. Second, it would eliminate any basis for politicians to engage in abatements of our Liberty, and third it would strengthen our national sovereignty by occupying our active military and state organized militias with legitimate defense objectives. Future presidents and future congresses would be effectively hindered from assigning large numbers of our troops to overseas deployments. Withdrawing from the UN - and asking the UN to leave the USA - would effectively terminate our politicians' ability to assign the bulk of our troops to UN "peacekeeping" and other missions. With our troops in over 160 countries nationwide, a strategic withdrawal prompted by exiting the UN would free up more than enough troops to secure our nation from the many threats facing us.
Will our borders be ignored? The agendas of both Democrats and Republicans suggest that this irreposible practice will continue in spite of appearances to the contrary. Once again, it will fall to concerned American citizens do for ourselves what the federal government is paid to do, but refuses.
On a positive note, rank-and file Border Patrol officers disagree with their agency bosses back in DC. Officers on-the-ground in Arizona appreciated the MMP volunteers' presence and welcome future cooperation in Arizona and other states along the Border.
Minuteman Project volunteers, we salute you! Semper Vigilans!
